Only a majority Labor Government will keep Tasmanian energy assets in Tasmanian hands.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said Labor would ensure Hydro Tasmania and its subsidiaries including project Marinus and pumped Hydro as well as TasNetworks, Aurora and the Tamar Valley Power Station would not be sold.
"Within the first 100 days of a Labor Government we will introduce legislation to close current loopholes and prevent the sale of any energy assets without the approval of both House of Parliament," Ms White said.
"The loopholes in the current legislation are so large you could drive a truck through them.
"Currently the legislation allows for the sale of any asset that is not classified as a "main undertaking" without needing the approval of Parliament.
"It is the shareholder ministers and the GBEs themselves that determine the definition of a 'main undertaking' so the current protections are not worth the paper they are written on.
"Clearly Momentum Energy and Entura are not considered to be 'main undertakings' by the Liberals despite delivering significant benefits to Tasmanians and employing hundreds of people.
"Only Labor will stop the sale of important energy assets and we will legislate to ensure the Liberals keep their hands off the Hydro for good."
Ms White said Tasmanians will never forget that Peter Gutwein has form when it comes to wanting to sell energy assets.
"Privatisation Pete tried to sell the Tamar Valley Power Station which compromised Tasmania's energy security and plunged Tasmania into an energy crisis, costing taxpayers more than $150 million dollars.
"Now the Liberals want to carve up and sell the Hydro piece by piece.
"Peter Gutwein simply can't be trusted with Tasmania's energy assets.
"Only Labor will make sure our renewable energy future is secured and that energy assets are working for Tasmanians."
