Labor will provide priority dental care for older Tasmanians

Tasmanian Labor
  • Labor will provide dental care to Tasmanians living in residential care
  • Public private partnerships will provide dental care to 5,000 aged care residents
  • Substantial investment needed to improve older Tasmanians' dignity and quality of life
  • A Majority Labor Government will provide priority dental care to thousands of Tasmanians living in residential care.

Shadow Health Minister Dr Bastian Seidel said older Tasmanians cannot be forgotten when it comes to dental health.

"Dental care and dental prosthesis care are an essential part of health and wellbeing for older Tasmanians living in residential care," Dr Seidel said.

"But too often, aged care residents are not able to get the treatments they need, with terrible consequences for their dignity and quality of life.

"We cannot continue to ignore this issue or the people affected.

"A Majority Labor Government will invest $6 million to urgently provide dental care to Tasmanians in residential aged care facilities via public private partnerships.

"Our program will provide dental care to 5,000 residents and make a substantial improvement to their lives.

"In light of the Royal Commission into Aged Care, neither the Federal or State Liberal Governments have done anything to address the shortcomings in access to dental treatments.

"This will change under a Tasmanian Labor Government.

"With proper healthcare, older Tasmanians can continue to lead fulfilling lives. Only Labor is working to improve the lives of all Tasmanians."
