Labor's reckless politicking helps no one

Members,

While the priority of the Tasmanian Liberal Government today has been the devastating floods and the impact on communities, given Labor's reckless politicking it's important to respond.

With our economy continuing to recover from the pandemic, now is the time to invest in transformational infrastructure that will support jobs and strengthen our economy for the long term.

An arts, entertainment and sporting precinct at Macquarie Point will generate hundreds of jobs and inject millions of dollars into our economy, while helping to diversify and grow our tourism, hospitality and events industries.

A strong economy helps buffer economic headwinds and allows us to invest even more into essential services such as health, housing and education.

And, every region in Tasmania will benefit, not just from the increase in economic activity, but also from our investment into sporting infrastructure, which already includes commitments of $25 million to upgrade Dial Park in Penguin and $65 million to upgrade UTAS Stadium.

We've also been clear that AFL games will be shared around the State, with home games played in Launceston and Hobart and pre-season and AFLW games played right across the State, including the North West.

Of course, this blind opposition is no surprise from Labor.

Last time they were in Government and faced economic headwinds, they responded by slashing frontline services, sacking nurses and police officers, and letting infrastructure around the State crumble.

As a result, Tasmania went into recession, and 10,000 Tasmanians lost their jobs.

Eight years later, nothing has changed.

There is no doubt that Labor's anti-everything agenda would leave Tasmania in the past, while the rest of country charges forward.
