Life-saving lessons with emergency personnel, workshops to combat social anxiety and insightful yoga classes are forming part of Council's inaugural Confident Kids program, which kicks off next week.
State Emergency Service Commander Swansea Commander said the unit would host four fun and engaging workshops at Pelican Foreshore on Tuesday 27 September and Thursday 6 October.
"Lessons around flood-safety have the potential to save a life," Mr Hoppe said.
"We'll share insight into how flood waters work and how to stay safe."
"Kids will have the opportunity to challenge their physical and emotional strength as they climb, jump and hop their way through the obstacle course."
Funded by the NSW Government's Children and Young People Wellbeing Recovery Initiative, Confident Kids will see 20 pop-up play sessions as well as 15 workshops focused on building resilience, from 27 September 2022 to 30 June 2023.
Lake Macquarie City Council Community Planner Children and Families Erin Pascall said the aim of the program is to help children and young people recover, build resilience, strengthen community networks and improve mental health and wellbeing. "
We are excited to be supporting children and families as they build confidence and connections within their community," Ms Pascall said.
"A free yoga session on Friday 30 September uses movement, yoga postures, mindfulness and breathing techniques will leave attendees feeling revitalised and refreshed."
A workshop which strives to help children be brave and combat social anxiety will take place on Tuesday 20 October.
Furthermore, three play time sessions will take place from Friday 4 November, connecting families with local support services and allied health professionals.
"We want to make families aware of valuable services that may be flying under the radar," Ms Pascall said.
"These services will offer parenting programs, support families in raising children in a safe and loving environment and much more."
Minister for Regional Youth Ben Franklin said he was delighted to see funding go to the Confident Kids Program.
"The $10.3 million Children and Young People Wellbeing Recovery Initiative is designed to help deliver projects that support recovery, boost resilience and support mental health and wellbeing for regional young people," Mr Franklin said.
"The Confident Kids program will deliver important outcomes for families and young people in the Lake Macquarie area."
While all events are free, bookings are essential.
