- An 8.8-hectare surplus portion of the Hervey Bay TAFE campus in Urraween has been released to market to deliver up to 175 homes.
- The development will also include a new access road, improved transport connectivity and flood mitigation measures.

The Crisafulli Government's nation-leading Land Activation Program has come to Hervey Bay, unlocking up to 175 new places to call home for Queenslanders.
The prime 8.8‑hectare Hervey Bay TAFE had been left unused throughout Labor's decade of decline and is a perfect candidate for the Land Activation Program, which identifies and releases underutilised State Government land to deliver new housing.
The well‑located site is close to key landmarks, such as the Stockland Hervey Bay Shopping Centre, Hervey Bay Hospital, St. Stephens Hospital, local schools, the Hervey Bay Esplanade, and the Great Sandy Straits Marina.
This surplus portion of the TAFE campus site isn't required for TAFE purposes, so has been released to market to give more Queenslanders a place to call home and fix Labor's Housing Crisis.
The Hervey Bay site joins a growing pipeline of Land Activation Program sites across the State since it was launched in February 2026, including:
- The Banyo site in Brisbane, which was the first Land Activation Program site released to market and has successful development partners selected.
- The Montague Road site in South Brisbane, which is currently leased to Visy, which we recently announced will be developed into a world-class mixed-use precinct in a thriving inner-city location.
- The Mango Hill site in North Brisbane, located near a wide range of local services and amenities.
- The ex-TAFE site at Pimlico in Townsville.
- The Varsity Lakes site on the Gold Coast.
- Turbot Street in Brisbane City.
- Highgate Hill in South Brisbane
EDQ is leading the program given its unique planning powers and experience partnering with government and industry, as well as its ability to unlock longstanding planning and site constraints.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the site reflected the Crisafulli Government's continued focus on unlocking land to tackle Labor's Housing Crisis.
"Availability equals affordability and by ensuring supply is unlocked, while also delivering a record number of social and affordable homes and support for first homebuyers, we're delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"This land was left under-utilised during Labor's decade of decline, despite being located within an established and well-serviced part of Hervey Bay and we can now meet a true need for the local community – delivering up to 175 homes amid Labor's housing shortfall.
"It's close to the Hervey Bay Hospital, to local schools, shopping centres and tourism landmarks, which makes it well-placed to support new homes for key workers close to the services, jobs and amenities people rely on every day.
"The Land Activation Program is unlocking under-utilised land in support of the Crisafulli Government's target of delivering one million homes by 2044 and the under-utilised land here at Urraween is a prime candidate for the program."
Member for Hervey Bay David Lee said the Crisafulli Government was absolutely committed to providing opportunities for Queenslanders to have a place to call home.
"Hervey Bay is one of Queensland's fastest growing communities and it's critical we provide a range of housing opportunities to meet the needs of young families, first home buyers, seniors and key workers," Mr Lee said.
"After a decade of decline under Labor that gave rise to a housing crisis, the Crisafulli Government is ensuring Hervey Bay has a pipeline of diverse housing options to support our growing community now and into the future."
Since the program launched in February, it has already resulted in more than 21 hectares of land being released to market across Queensland.
