Landslides, floods kill 82 in Sri Lanka - Reports

As many as 82 people have died in Sri Lanka in recent days as floods and landslides hit the island nation, media reported Sunday.

According to the Philippines News Agency, citing the country’s Disaster Management Center (DMC), 500,000 people have been affected by the disastrous conditions.

The threat of floods and landslides remains high, with as many as 200,000 people currently staying at temporary shelters which the government had set up.

Earlier this week, Sri Lanka Red Cross said that three villages were buried under a landslide.

According to the country’s Meteorology Department, rains and strong winds will continue in many parts of Sri Lanka.
