Latrobe Valley serves up 2020 Combined National Table Tennis Championships

The 2020 National Veterans Championships and 2020 National Senior, Youth, Junior & Para Championships will land in Latrobe Valley November and December 2020 over a jam packed 18 days of competition, aligning multiple national championship events for the first time ever.

The 2020 National Veterans Championships and 2020 National Senior, Youth, Junior & Para Championships will be delivered by Table Tennis Australia (TTA) with support from Latrobe City Council and Destination Gippsland.

The Event is expected to attract a total of 2,200 participants, officials and spectators across multiple competitions, generating an estimated 16,600 bed nights and $4.63 Million economic impact for the Gippsland region. All events will be conducted at Traralgon Sports Stadium.

The event taking place will be subject to strict compliance with any COVID-19 restrictions that may be in place at the time of the event and obtaining all of the necessary approvals from VIC Health and Victorian Government. The timing of this will be a great opportunity for local businesses and the wider economy in Gippsland to bounce back following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Events and Dates are as follows:

  • 2020 National Veterans Championships: 28 November to 5 December
  • 2020 National Senior, Youth, Junior & Para Championships: 11-20 December

The Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Cr Dan Clancey is excited about the partnership, commenting "We're delighted to host the Table Tennis Australia National Championships at our newly-upgraded Traralgon Sports Stadium. It will be our first opportunity to showcase the facility to a local and national audience. The announcement also comes at just the right time to boost our spirits and give us something to look forward to at the end of the year."

Destination Gippsland welcomes the hosting of the Table Tennis Australia National Championships at the new sports stadium in Traralgon. CEO Terry Robinson said "This is a great event for Latrobe City and Council are to be congratulated on these state of the art facilities. Hosting such events provides the opportunity for visitation locally and across Gippsland which will significantly contribute to the overall visitor economy."
