Launceston Police confiscate car for evading police, TAS

Approximately 2:40pm on Wednesday the 20th of September 2017 police on patrol in the Launceston Central Business District attempted into intercept a 17 year old Trevallyn woman on York Street for driving whilst using her mobile phone.  Police approached her whilst she was stopped at a red light, however, she accelerated away and collided with another vehicle traveling along Wellington Street through the intersection.  The woman then drove away and up Elizabeth Street through several red light intersections before abandoning her car in the ABC studio car park on Ann Street, Tasmania Police say.

The woman was located by police hiding in a front yard off High Street, East Launceston, a short time later.  Luckily no one was injured as a result of her driving.

The woman has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, unlicenced driving, using an unregistered vehicle and using a mobile phone while driving.  The woman was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

The woman’s vehicle, a red Toyota Camry sedan, was confiscated by police for 28 days.
