Launch and parking fees to be removed at Governor Road boat ramp

Boating at the Governor Road boat ramp will be free with Kingston Council voting to remove boat ramp and parking fees from the site.

The Victorian Government announced plans to remove fees at all sites across the state last year and Kingston has been in discussions with the government over the plans for several months.

The Governor Road boat ramp is located on Crown Land that has been maintained by Council using fees from the parking and launch fees.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said that in the past maintenance of the boat ramp was paid for by the fees and Council did not think it was fair that local ratepayers should be left to pay for ongoing maintenance at the site.

"Council has agreed to remove fees at the Governor Road boat ramp and the Victorian Government will reimburse Council for the remainder of this financial year's fees to cover maintenance costs for the site," Cr Oxley said.

Kingston Council will then seek to return management of the boat ramp to the Victorian Government for ongoing management and maintenance.
