Launch of Circular Head Workforce Planning Study

Roger Jaensch,Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth

A new plan to guide workforce development in the Circular Head region has been launched.

The Circular Head Workforce Planning Study improves our understanding of workforce planning and development opportunities for Circular Head.

In turn, this will help us to build the workforce needed to support Battery of the Nation, Project Marinus, hydrogen and other major renewable energy projects.

The planning study has been delivered by the Circular Head Council in conjunction with the Circular Head Education and Training Consultative Committee under the $16.1 million Energising Tasmania initiative.

Circular Head is at the heart of Tasmania's North West renewable energy zone. It is already home to major wind farms, particularly Woolnorth, and further wind farm development is keenly anticipated.

As part of our Tasmanian Renewable Energy Action Plan, the Tasmanian Government has committed to increasing our renewable energy capacity to 200 per cent of demand.

To achieve this we need the skilled workforce available to be able to deliver on this ambitious goal.

This workforce planning study will help to ensure we have the right people with the right skills to support future growth in renewable energy projects for the Circular Head region can make the most of these opportunities.

We also know that workforce development challenges span industry boundaries, so as well as emerging opportunities in renewable energy this plan has considered workforce development broadly across local industries including forestry, agribusiness, and aquaculture.

The Australian and Tasmanian governments, through Skills Tasmania, and the Energising Tasmania Training Fund, are keen to support further training opportunities in the Circular Head region. In particular to support local businesses to be ready, and make the most, of future renewable energy developments.
