Leeton Shire Library will be temporarily closed to the public from Thursday 6 August to Saturday 8 August 2026 to allow for the installation of new library shelving as part of a significant infrastructure renewal project.
The upgrade is being delivered through the Library's successful 2025/26 State Library of NSW Public Library Infrastructure Grant, which awarded $190,000 for The Next Chapter: Shelving Renewal Project. The funding will enable the replacement of ageing shelving throughout the Library, creating a more modern, accessible and flexible space for library users.
The temporary closure is required to ensure the safety of staff and visitors during the installation process. Large delivery items, tools and partially assembled shelving will be present throughout the building, creating potential safety hazards while works are underway.
Library staff will work to minimise disruptions and prepare the collection for installation ahead of the closure period.
Library Supervisor, Rachel Cody, said the project represents an important investment in the future of the Library.
"This shelving renewal project will significantly improve the functionality, accessibility and appearance of our Library for many years to come. We appreciate the community's patience during the temporary closure and look forward to welcoming everyone back into an enhanced and more user-friendly space."
The Library will reopen as normal on Monday 10 August 2026, with visitors invited to explore the upgraded shelving and refreshed library environment.
