Leeton Shire Council is pleased to announce a new initiative that will bring library services closer to the Yanco community, with the establishment of a library depot inside the Yanco General Store.

The new depot is the result of a collaborative partnership between Yanco General Store, Leeton Shire Library, the Yanco community and Leeton Shire Council. The initiative expands access to library services by providing a convenient local borrowing point for residents who may not regularly travel to Leeton and builds on the success of the existing library depot at the Whitton Post Office.

Leeton Shire Library Supervisor Rachel Cody said the project reflects a strong commitment to accessibility, learning and community connection.

"This idea has been in the pipeline for quite some time, so bringing it to life is incredibly rewarding," Ms Cody said. "Having a library presence in Yanco means residents can access books and library services closer to home, while strengthening ties between Council, local business and the community. It supports learning, literacy and wellbeing, and ensures our services are more inclusive for people who may not be able to travel into Leeton regularly."

Community members can borrow items directly from the library shelf at Yanco General Store using their existing Leeton Shire Library card. Residents who do not yet have a library card and have a Leeton Shire residential address can complete a simple application form to join the Library.

The Leeton Shire Library also reminds residents of its free Home Library Service, which offers monthly delivery of library items directly to a resident's home. The service includes books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs and more, with up to 35 items available at a time, and supports community members who may be isolated, have mobility constraints or prefer home delivery.
