They were after Tasmanian jobs, now they're after Christmas lunch.
The latest attack by interstate left wing elitists on Tasmanian salmon has hit a new low – they've put Tasmanian salmon on "the naughty list".
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said this latest smear campaign in The Age was dishonest at best.
"Tasmanian salmon not only puts food on the table and pays the bills for thousands of Tasmanian families – it is also an affordable, nutritious and much-loved source of protein," Minister Abetz said.
"Spurious claims around the effects of salmon farming need to be called out.
"These groups of inner city latte sipping Melbourne and Sydney elites presume to lecture us on what we can and cannot do - it is an insult to the intelligence of all Australians.
"Seafood is an incredibly popular choice over the Christmas period, and many Australians will be looking to have some world-class Tasmanian salmon as a welcome centrepiece.
"We have the strictest regulation of any seafood sector in Australia. Salmon is sustainably farmed and this is nothing more than the deliberate demonisation of our world-class, sustainable industry.
"Tasmanian salmon pays the bills and puts food on the table for thousands of families across our State – every single job this industry provides is valuable under our Liberal Government.
"We will always support our sustainable, world-class salmon industry despite the best efforts of politically motivated, inner-city left-wing elitists."
