Today, Lithgow City Council's Mayor, Councillor Cassandra Coleman, Deputy Mayor Steve Ring, Councillors Fredericks and Mahony, and Director Jonathon Edgecombe, are attending the Local Government NSW Annual Conference to advocate strongly on behalf of Lithgow. The LGNSW Conference is one of the most important advocacy opportunities for Councils, with all NSW Councils offered the opportunity to suggest motions and attend to lobby for their cause.

"Local Government provides the majority of services provided at a local level," said Mayor Coleman. "Yet, we are not afforded our fair share of revenue from the NSW and Australian Governments. Top of the agenda is the appropriate funding of the local government sector, across Australia. Lithgow Council's motion dealing with the financial sustainability of our industry was unanimously supported by all Councils in attendance."

"We are also often the first point of contact for those in our community that feel concern over issues at a local, state or federal level," continued Mayor Coleman. "Lithgow is attending to put forward and consider initiatives that impact state significant development approvals, natural disaster recovery, and the housing crisis impacting NSW, amongst a wide array of other motions like the loss of many special purpose grants across NSW. We are proud to work for our community and appreciate the opportunity to ensure Lithgow's voice is heard on matters so critical for our residents."

The Local Government NSW Annual Conference runs for three days from Sunday 23 December to Tuesday 25 December. Further information on past conferences can be found on the LGNSW website: https://lgnsw.org.au/
