Liberals asleep at wheel over Qantas jobs

Tasmanian Labor

The Premier has failed to protect jobs at Tasmania's Qantas contact centre, Member for Elwick Josh Willie said today.

"Sixty workers have lost their jobs today and the Premier owes them an explanation as to why he didn't fight harder for their employment," Mr Willie said.

"In June 2016 Will Hodgman crowed about the Liberal Government giving taxpayers' money to Qantas - including relocation allowances for workers - to boost the call centre's worker numbers to 300.

"Less than three years later the reported workforce of 200 is to be cut by 60.

"The Liberals are quick to boast about jobs being created but do nothing to ensure they are protected.

"When the real work is to be done defending Tasmanian workers the Liberal Party is nowhere to be seen."
