Liberals delivering on health, Labor focused on stunts and personal attacks

Today’s stunt is simply Labor continuing to use Tasmania’s health system as a political football – this is the last thing Tasmanians want to see.

Tasmanians expect politicians to get on with the job, and that’s exactly what we are doing, working to provide more funding, more staff and more beds.

Our last Budget included $1.7 billion more for health than Labor’s last budget, we’ve opened 120 new beds and we are building, opening and staffing almost 300 more beds over coming years. We have added more than 600 additional frontline staff in our health system, including hundreds of new nurses.

We are addressing growing demand in our health system across Australia, and in Tasmania, with thousands more people attending hospital, and we are focused on listening to Tasmanians and meeting that need.

Labor refused to listen to Tasmanians when they were in Government and badly damaged the health system - cutting half a billion dollars from the health system and sacking a nurse a day for nine months after they mismanaged the budget.

We have repaired that damage and are investing more:

FACT- The 2018-19 Budget includes $7.6 billion of health spending over the next four years- $1.7 billion more than the last term of the Labor-Green Government.

FACT: We committed a record $757 million investment into our health system at the election. That’s $200 million more than Labor who wanted to waste money putting sick people into hotel beds.

FACT: We have opened beds that Labor shut and reduced the waiting times for elective surgery.

FACT: Labor cut half a billion dollars from Tasmania’s health budget when last in Government, and former failed Labor Health Minister Michelle O’Byrne sacked a nurse a day for nine months.

FACT: Labor’s signature policy on health was to put sick people into hotel beds. Does Sarah Lovell stand by this policy?

We will continue to consult and listen to Tasmanians, which we have done actively for the past four years, after Labor ignored them for more than a decade.

Labor are continually focused on politicising and personal attacks – with no policies, no solutions, no plans.
