Liberals must release draft gaming legislation

Tasmanian Labor
  • Liberals should commit to releasing draft gaming legislation
  • Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein need to consult properly
  • Shadow Treasurer David O'Byrne said Peter Gutwein's announcement today on gaming provides Tasmanians with very little new information.

"More than two years after announcing their policy position, we're yet to see draft legislation.

"Peter Gutwein and Will Hodgman should commit to urgently releasing draft legislation for consultation, so that stakeholders and the community have time to consider it.

"We've seen the Liberals ram through controversial legislation in the dying days of parliament this year, dumping it on members with little notice.

"It's vital that the Government is open with Tasmanians on its plans for gaming.

Mr O'Byrne noted there is nothing new in today's announcement on harm minimisation.

"Labor is focused on reducing the harm caused by poker machines in our communities, and we'll be taking that focus into debate in the parliament when legislation is eventually brought forward."

    David O'Byrne
