Liberals Urged to Clarify Nuyina Refuelling Plan

Tas Labor

With the deadline for the Macquarie Wharf Six Federal funding milestone upon us, Labor is calling on the Liberal Government to tell Tasmanians what their plan is to fix the Nuyina refuelling bungle.

According to the Federal Funding Agreement signed by Premier Rockliff, $2 million in funding hinges on the Commonwealth's acceptance of the "Tasmanian Government's Refuelling Solution, available for use in Antarctic Season 26/27".

The Nuyina was banned from going under the Tasman Bridge to refuel at Self's Point in 2023, but three years later Tasmanians are none the wiser as to what the solution will be.

Meanwhile, taxpayers continue to shell out nearly a million dollars a year in extra fuel and logistics to fill the Nuyina up in Burnie, seeing Tasmania continue to miss out on the economic benefits of having the ship properly based in Australia's Antarctic gateway.

The Tasmanian Government launched an expression of interest process, with several proponents understood to have put proposals forward, only for the Liberals to leave them hanging.

This is just another example of the trademark Liberal waste Tasmanians have sadly become accustomed to after 13 of years of this government.

The Liberals are once again tarnishing our national and international reputation through their ineptness, and they need to front up and tell Tasmanians what their plan is.
