Liquor Act Breach - Tennant Creek

Tennant Creek members have arrested a 33-year-old male in relation to grog running.

The male, who was travelling by bus from Mt Isa, was located by police in Tennant Creek around 4:00am on Thursday 16 August, Northern Territory Police say.

He was found to be in the possession of 14 casks of 4.4 litre wine which police believe he intended to sell. The liquor was destroyed.

The male was also arrested in relation to a crash which occurred on the Barkly Highway on Friday 4 May during another alleged attempted grog run. The car was significantly damaged and the male left the scene. 24 casks of 4.4 litre wine were located hidden in the surrounding area and subsequently destroyed by police.

He was charged with:

  • Unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Drive while unlicensed
  • Fail to report a crash
  • Sell liquor without a licence

He was bailed to appear at Tennant Creek Local Court on 18 September.

Police would like to thank members of the public for their continued support in reporting grog running. Anyone with information on grog running is asked to notify police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers.
