Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol destined for remote communities in the Victoria Daly region.
On Friday 2 October 2020, police conducted a traffic operation near Adelaide River, targeting secondary supply, following an increase of alcohol in remote communities.
Police seized a total of 31 bottles of alcohol. A 25-year-old male was issued a notice to appear for;
- supply / process liquor in alcohol protected area
- drive while suspended
- dangerous driving
- drive unsafe vehicle
- drive unregistered vehicle
Two others were issued with infringements for alcohol and drug related offences.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Hebb said police will continue to target persons attempting to unlawfully transport alcohol and drugs in an effort to keep our vulnerable communities and members safe.
"The seizing of this alcohol can have a significant impact on lessening anti-social behaviour, physical harm, including domestic violence, and road related trauma across remote Northern Territory communities.
"NT Police are undertaking investigations into where and how the alcohol was sourced, noting the emergency powers set out by the Director of Licensing for the Greater Darwin Area.
"Any licensees that are found to be supplying alcohol to customers who are unable to demonstrate their residences is within the Greater Darwin Area will face prosecution."
