Livestock seized from Candelo Crown Land, NSW

A multi-agency operation has ended with dozens cattle, sheep and horses being seized from Crown Land on the Far South Coast, NSW Police say.

Police from South Coast PD, Rural Crime investigators and detectives from Bega – working with officers from the RSPCA and the Department of Industry – yesterday (Monday 11 December 2017), mustered livestock from 40ha of Crown Land on Mogilla Road, Candelo, 24km north-west of Merimbula.

Police have been told stock had been kept illegally on the Crown Land for some years; the muster was conducted after negotiations between the owner and Crown lands staff failed.

As a result of the operation, 31 horses, 11 head of cattle and 14 sheep were impounded; of those, 10 horses are now the subject of an animal welfare investigation by RSPCA officers.

A 55-year-old woman has been interviewed in relation to the trespassing stock, and has been given an impounding notice.

Inquiries are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
