Load restraint quiz winner announced

Parkes Shire

Congratulations to Donald Wood, a truck driver from Narromine, who has been announced as the winner of the Load Restraint Quiz.

Donald has won $500 worth of new load restraint equipment and was one of over 450 people who took part in the online quiz.

Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils' Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer, Melanie Suitor, says the quiz was an opportunity for local farmers, contract harvesters, couriers, truck drivers and transport operators to test their load restraint knowledge.

"The quiz was the first strategy of our 'Load Restraint Education Project'.

"Congratulations to Donald and thank-you to everyone who took part.

"The online quiz asked seven questions about basic load restraint knowledge in relation to transporting hay bales, machinery and general freight, penalties and where to seek advice.

"Once you submitted your answer, you received a message saying whether it was correct or incorrect and why, which improved people's knowledge," Ms Suitor said.

The majority of entrants were from the Central West, but a few entries were received from further afield across NSW and there were even a few from interstate.

"The quiz has given us a baseline of what the current level of load restraint knowledge was before we implemented the various educational strategies, which are underway at the moment.

"Our how-to videos are online and we have just completed our 12 village load restraint information session tour," Ms Suitor said.

"We'll be conducting the quiz again towards the end of June, to measure any shifts in awareness as a result of the project," Ms Suitor said.

The 'Load Restraint Education Project' has been funded through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator's 2020 Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative, which is supported by the Federal Government.

"Thanks to our project partners - NSW Police, NSW Farmers and Transport for NSW - for their assistance in planning and developing the quiz and the other project strategies," Ms Suitor said.
