A man will face court today charged after police seized a loaded firearm and drugs during a vehicle stop in Sydney's south west.
About 10.50pm yesterday (Monday 5 August 2019), a Nissan Pulsar sedan was stopped by officers from St George Highway Patrol for random testing in Josephine Street, Riverwood.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, allegedly returned a positive result to methylamphetamine.
During a search of the vehicle, police located restricted prescription medication and a loaded firearm. These items were seized to undergo forensic testing.
Police will allege in court that the man did not have a prescription for this medication.
The man was arrested and taken to Kogarah Police Station, where he was charged with seven offences, including:
- possess prohibited drug (x3),
- possess loaded firearm in public place,
- possess unregistered firearm in public place,
- not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm,
- possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.
He was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Tuesday 6 August 2019).
Investigations are continuing.
