What comes to mind when you think of 'home'? This March, Hawkesbury Regional Gallery welcomes in their first exhibition for 2026, HOME | a place we call, showcasing works from 15 local Hawkesbury artists reflecting on what 'home' means to them.
Through intimate storytelling and conversations of identity, the exhibition considers the many ways we remember, inhabit, imagine and create place. At a time when ideas of home, shelter, security, and identity are complex, this exhibition offers space to consider and share our connections to and experience of place. How we are shaped by, and in turn how we make the places we call home.
The exhibiting artists were selected through an open call held in late 2025, inviting Hawkesbury residents to reflect on what 'home' means to them. The Gallery received more than 28 eligible applications from artists living within the Hawkesbury LGA, representing a diverse range of mediums including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics and installation. The exceptional quality of submissions resulted in a highly competitive selection process. In response to the strength of the applications, the curatorial team ultimately selected 15 artists, five more than originally outlined in the exhibition brief.
The exhibiting artists are: Nadine Betts, Josephine Blue, Jennifer Brady, Carol Gill, Dan Kyle, Neena Mand, Leanne Watson Redpath, Oonagh Sherrard, Belinda Skyring, Rob Sledge, Wendy Sledge, Gaye Stevens, Rosa Visciano, Mark Wilson and Tom Zust.
Artist callouts such as this not only help shape future cultural programming but also introduce the Gallery to practicing artists within the local area who may be considered for upcoming curatorial projects and creative initiatives. All applications are retained on file for future programming opportunities.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of creative workshops, artist talks and an immersive Maker Space featuring FREE drop-in activities for all ages. The Maker Space will also operate as a designated Quiet Space from 12pm–2pm on weekdays, supporting visitors who prefer a calmer, low-sensory environment.
HOME | a place we call will be showing at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery from Saturday 14 March until Sunday 31 May. Opening hours Monday, Wednesday – Friday 10am – 4pm and Saturday & Sunday 10am – 3pm. Gallery entry is FREE for all ages.
