Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun has praised this year's recipients of the Order of Liverpool Awards, describing them as "the quiet achievers whose dedication, compassion and service form the backbone of our community."
The prestigious awards were first established as the Liverpool 'Heritage Awards' and in 1979 were renamed 'The Order of Liverpool' to recognise the distinguished years of work or voluntary service that have enhanced the quality of life in the Liverpool local government area.
The Order honours achievements of excellence in and contributions to all forms of human endeavour which have enhanced the quality of life in Liverpool City.
Mayor Mannoun said the awards highlight the extraordinary calibre of people who call Liverpool home: "Every year, the Order of Liverpool reminds us that true greatness isn't found in headlines or grand gestures, it's found in our neighbours, volunteers and community leaders who give selflessly, often without ever seeking recognition," he said.
"These recipients embody the excellence that exists throughout Liverpool. They represent the very best of who we are: people who step up when others need help, who give generously of their time and talent, and who work tirelessly to make our city stronger, kinder and more connected."
The Mayor noted that the significance of the Order lies not only in its long history but in the authenticity of its nominations. Every nomination comes directly from the community: from people who have witnessed the impact of a volunteer's work firsthand.
"That is what makes this honour so meaningful," Mayor Mannoun said. "It is the community itself saying: we see you, we appreciate you, and you have made a real difference."
This year's recipients span a wide range of service: from decades-long environmental volunteering and cultural leadership, to supporting veterans, caring for the sick, promoting Aboriginal education, empowering young people, and guiding vulnerable members of the community.
"These are people who give tirelessly, year after year, shaping lives and strengthening our social fabric," Mayor Mannoun said. "Their work often takes place quietly, behind the scenes, but its impact is profound and lasting."
Mayor Mannoun thanked all nominees, recipients and their families for their service. "Liverpool is a better, brighter city because of the people we honour today," he said. "Their example inspires all of us to contribute, to care, and to keep building the strong, united community we are proud to call home."
