After more than 20 hours of searching, two divers have been located safe and well after they went missing in waters off Point Lookout yesterday, 18 April.
About 10am, police and emergency services were advised two divers, a 45-year-old Victoria Point man and 43-year-old Robina man, had failed to return to the boat at the expected time, 9.15am.
Search and rescue operations commenced about 10.30am and included Brisbane Water Police, police divers, Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ), Coast Guard, Surf Life Saving Queensland and aerial assets.
Just before 7am this morning, the AMSA Melbourne-based Challenger aircraft jet located the two men about 2.2 nautical miles east of Main Beach, about 14 nautical miles south of their initial location, and deployed a life raft to them.
Water police were first on scene and provided assistance to the two men before they were airlifted by the Surf Life Saving helicopter.
The two men were airlifted to a park in Southport before they were transport to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
The men have been returned home safe and well.
