Northern Territory Police are investigating an incident in which a minivan was stolen and destroyed following a youth disco on Saturday night.
Around 9pm Police received a report of staff’s personal property being stolen from a Brown Street business during a youth disco event, Northern Territory Police say.
Just after 11pm, unknown offender/s stole a minivan parked at the back of the business, which was later observed being driven recklessly throughout town.
The bus was located burnt out by Police the following day at Santa Teresa.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Bolger said this incident comes after an increase in the number of unlawful entries across the Alice Springs over the past week.
"Police are investigating all of these incidents in an attempt to identify and hold the culprits to account for their actions.
"It appears amongst items of value the offenders are after car keys, so we urge home and business owners to ensure they secure their valuables, especially car keys - when they’re not using them.
"It is unfortunate and we empathise with anyone who has become a victim of this wanton destruction.
"You can be assured that Police are doing all that we can in an attempt to prevent these crimes from occurring, however we need the community to assist us in making it harder for these opportunistic offenders.
"Regardless if you are there or not, be sure to secure your premises as a number of the crimes that occurred are simply as a result of an open or unlocked door," said Det Sgt Bolger
Four youth have been arrested in relation to unlawful entries during the weekend and appeared before the Alice Springs Youth Justice Court this morning.
