Lockdown and search at Beaver Creek Institution - Medium-security unit

On November 4, 2019 , at about 9:00 a.m. , a lockdown was put in place in the medium- security unit at Beaver Creek Institution to allow staff to conduct a search of the institution following an inmate assault.

The search was ordered in the medium-security unit to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Visits have been suspended until the search is completed. Visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the institution directly.

The safety and security of the institutions is the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC) primary concern. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.

CSC is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions. Our efforts help to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.

In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and take the appropriate measures.
