Daryl Ross (centre) is presented with his award.

Logan City Council Acting Roads and Water Director Daryl Ross is the Queensland Water Professional of the Year.

Mr Ross received the accolade at the Queensland Water Awards in Brisbane on Friday night.

The award acknowledge his decades of service to the water industry alongside his efforts in mentoring and supporting future professionals.

Logan City Council Acting CEO Silvio Trinca said Mr Ross had played a vital and pioneering role in the management and forward planning of Logan's water and wastewater networks for more than 10 years.

"We are extremely fortunate to have Daryl as a leader in our water business at Logan City Council," Mr Trinca said.

"Daryl is a well-respected expert in the industry and is regularly sought out for advice based on his extensive knowledge and experience."

Mr Ross joined Logan City Council as Executive Manager of Logan Water in 2007.

His achievements have included the creation of the Logan Water Alliance and later, the Logan Water Infrastructure Alliance, award-winning public and private sector enterprises that have delivered more than $500 million of services for the local region over the past decade.

The Alliance has also pioneered ground-breaking projects that changed the direction of the water industry, including the Round Mountain Reservoir at New Beith, an Australian-first solution to managing water quality in remote locations.

More recently, Mr Ross has overseen the Alliance's development of the Cedar Grove Environmental Centre, which is on track to become one of Australia's most sustainable wastewater treatment facilities.

He also helped secure one of the world's first biosolid gasification facilities, which will see sewage sludge converted into fertilizer and heat energy at the Loganholme wastewater plant.

Mr Ross' win puts him in the running for the Australian Water Professional of the Year award in 2020.
