Life is a little surreal right now for one of Logan City Council's newest recruits.
Last week, Shiori Takemoto was in a rugged eucalypt forest at Greenbank ahead of participating in one of Council's hazard reduction burns ahead of the bushfire season.
Just days earlier, the Tokyo resident was living in her home city among more than nine million other residents.
Shiori is in the City of Logan on a two-month internship with Council's Parks Branch.
The 24-year-old is a graduate in environment and wildlife management from the University of Japan and has worked as a consultant in environmental construction.
She chose Logan because of its diversity. The city is home to 217 different cultural groups.
"I read about Logan and as well as its many cultures I could see it was also a big city with many parks," Shiori said.
The City of Logan has more than 930 parks.
"I am very excited to be here and everyone is so friendly.
"I will certainly be recommending that my friends come here too for a visit."
During her stay Shiori hopes to explore Australian beaches and do some hiking and bushwalking.
She also plans to discover new fragrances in her hobby of perfume blending.
"Australian native seeds and plants are very interesting and unique and I can't wait to try them," Shiori said.
