The State's first Children and Youth Workforce Roundtable has been held today.
Minister for Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said the roundtable has been established to address the long term supply of workers in frontline positions, and will be active for the next three years.
"The Tasmanian Government is committed to working across the sector to ensure we have the workforce needed to meet our current service needs, and to deliver on the reforms we have committed to which support vulnerable children and young people," Minister Jaensch said.
"The Roundtable will consider the workforce challenges and opportunities ensuring a thriving ecosystem of valued and capable workers into the future.
"The Government is committed to working alongside stakeholders to identify immediate and longer-term solutions in a comprehensive and integrated way.
"The Roundtable will function as an advisory group, with the membership comprising of our key non-government partners who deliver essential services to children and young people, the Commissioner for Children and Young People, Unions, the University of Tasmania and TasTAFE, as well as the Department for Education and Young People and the Department of Health, working together to identify meaningful action."
The establishment of the Roundtable is in response to a recommendation from the Commission of Inquiry and will pursue the following objectives:
Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future ensures the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and their families, which is exactly what this roundtable will strive to achieve.
The Roundtable will produce a report on the immediate and forecasted workforce shortages experienced by the sector and develop a range of actions to address them, leveraging proven successful strategies.
