Look out for new shared path decals

Knox has more than 100km off road shared paths connecting residents and visitors to our open spaces, education and shopping precincts within the municipality. In addition, there are a number of underpasses along the shared path network, some that are narrow and steep which has resulted in a number of requests for signage asking cyclists to slow down and pedestrians to be aware of where they are on the path to avoid collisions.

During the 2020 and 2021 covid-19 restrictions, we have witnessed a significant increase in the usage of our shared paths, both with pedestrians and cyclists. There has also been an increase in the number of people walking their dogs along the shared paths and unfortunately, also a rise in the frequency of dog poo not being attended to and dogs being allowed off-leash, causing collisions or near-misses with cyclists. We want to promote safer behaviours along our shared path network so that all users can enjoy them.

We have installed around 80 decals on shared paths along Dandenong Creek Trail, Blind Creek Trail, and Ferny Creek Trail.

Slow down and Ring your bell pavement signs were installed near underpasses while Share the path and Pedestrian ahead near parks, reserves, and shopping centres.
