Lunar Sea launches at the Australian National Maritime Museum with a program of free, fun events celebrating the Lunar New Year for all ages, every weekend from January 28.
Captivating cultural performances, interactive art installations, creative workshops, tours, trails and more take place at the museum and Darling Harbour to welcome the Year of the Tiger.
In partnership with 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and the Korean Cultural Centre, the museum precinct comes alive with art, workshops, kids' activities and music for everyone.
K-POP cover groups 9bit and Magic Circle kick off with fun, energised open-age dance workshops.
Eugenia Lim's interactive art installation, 'The People's Currency', sets up a provocative performance in Darling Harbour, exploring the social impacts of globalisation, economics and production.
A collection of works by Cindy Yuen-Zhe Chen, Spaces to Stir draws viewers into a quiet and meditative space filled with video, sound and ink drawing installations.
Workshops with guest artists curated by 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art take place at the Lunar Maker Space where you can try ink painting with artist Cindy Yuen-Zhe Chen, calisthenics with dance-makers Jeremy Santos and Reina Takeuchi and ornate edible snacks with Radha (aka Shahmen Suku).
Lunar Sea kids' adventures include a museum activity trail and lucky dip, inspired by animals and constellations that feature in our collections. Artist Amy Ge brings 'Big Cats, Small Cats, Ships Cats' to life, with a creative, tiger-themed print-making workshop.
Mandarin language tours of the museum will be available on selected days, with an expert guide touring the collection and core galleries, featuring Australia's maritime heritage, including navigation, immigration and Indigenous culture.
On Sunday 13 February, see out the Lunar New Year with vibrant, thrilling martial arts, Lion and Dragon dance performances presented by Dong Thanh Alliance.
All Lunar Sea outdoor programs, trails, performances are free, although some workshops may be ticketed for capacity.
Lunar Sea runs on weekends from 28 January – 13 February 2022, 10am – 4pm.
