It's not just the socks and jocks a Maitland dad is looking forward to this Father's Day - it's also the day he'll be paid the $1 million Saturday Lotto prize he scored in the weekend's draw.
The Hunter region resident held one of the six division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Lotto draw 4601 on Saturday 23 August 2025. Each division one winning entry pocketed $1,055,540.64.
"I've been looking forward to this call for quite some time!" he exclaimed when speaking to us.
"I usually buy a ticket, but I don't really check it. I figure if I'm lucky and I happen to win one day, you'll ring.
"I often get the smallest entry possible. I just think, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. If you get lucky, you get lucky.
"I used to have favourite numbers, but just let them go and go with a QuickPick.
"I saw I had a missed call earlier. While I first thought it was a scam, I did think, 'hang on a second, it could be real'.
"So, I jumped on my phone and immediately told my wife, and she couldn't believe it. She thought I was tricking her.
"We were just sitting around the table talking about it. It's going to secure the house and clear the mortgage. That's why I buy a Lotto ticket - that's always been the one thing I'd like to do."
As he is due to be paid his prize on Sunday 7 September 2025, after the two-week provisional period for division one prizes, the winner declared this Father's Day would be a day he'd never forget.
"It still seems like it hasn't happened," he laughed.
"Once I see the prize in my account on Father's Day, then it will be real."
The man's winning 4-game QuickPick entry was purchased via The Lott app - the official home of Australia's lotteries.
