Colac Otway Shire Council has awarded a major contract to deliver four significant road reconstruction projects in Apollo Bay, forming part of Council's $7 million investment in sealed road upgrades across coastal townships in the 2025-26 financial year.
Several renewal projects are underway or scheduled in Apollo Bay, including a recently awarded contract for the reconstruction of Pascoe Street between Moore Street and Nelson Street.
General Manager Infrastructure and Environment Doug McNeill said Council was committed to road renewal projects that support communities and meet modern standards.
"This contract represents a major investment in the future of Apollo Bay's road network. These upgrades will improve safety, drainage and access, and ensure our infrastructure is more resilient to the impacts of severe weather," Mr McNeill said.
Council's annual road reconstruction program ensures continuous, responsible, and affordable investment in the Shire's sealed road network, aligning with the long-term priorities set out in Council's Asset Plan.
Under this new contract, Council will deliver reconstruction works on:
- Pengilley Avenue - between Gallipoli Parade and Costin Street.
- Ramsden Avenue - between Pengilley Avenue and McLachlan Street.
- Costin Street - between Pengilley Avenue and Montrose Avenue.
- Montrose Avenue - between McLachlan Street and Costin Street.
These roads have been identified for renewal due to their poor pavement condition and the need to upgrade associated infrastructure such as kerb and channel, drainage systems and footpaths.
The scope of works includes full pavement rehabilitation, new and upgraded stormwater drainage, kerb and channel replacement and construction, roadside carparking improvements, footpath, crossover and landscaping works, updated line marking and signage, and road widening to meet current standards for two‑lane traffic.
These upgrades will significantly improve the safety, trafficability and long‑term performance of the roads. The stormwater drainage improvements are designed to reduce flooding in surrounding areas and will work in conjunction with other drainage upgrades underway in Apollo Bay to better manage the impacts of high‑intensity rainfall events.
Council received three submissions for the tender that went out before Christmas. The contract was awarded to local firm R Slater and Sons.
Works will begin this month and be completed by September.
