Major drug arrests – Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad

Detectives from the Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad have charged 13 people and seized quantities of ‘ice’, MDMA, GHB and cannabis during today’s closure of Operation Gallic, Queensland Police say.

The arrests follow a series of coordinated search warrants on addresses in the police districts of Logan, South Brisbane, Cleveland and the Sunshine Coast. The warrants were conducted with the assistance of local detectives, uniform police and specialist units.

The Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad was established earlier this year in consultation with the Logan District and the State Crime Command, Drug and Serious Crime Group and forms part of the South Eastern Region Major and Organised Crime Squad with offices at Surfers Paradise and Springwood.

"Today’s arrests are the direct result of the hard work by police in the Logan District to engage the local community and direct us to the criminal activity that they refuse to put up with.  This is the first operation conducted by the Logan MOCS team with the great support of the Logan District and in conjunction with neighbouring districts also affected by the distribution network.

"The spread of this network shows that boundaries do not apply to these criminal organisations.  The cooperation of all police districts demonstrates that this is also true of the QPS approach to stopping crime," Detective Inspector Stephen Blanchfield of the Major and Organised Crime Squad said.

During the six-month investigation police disrupted several deliveries of drugs to prevent them being dispersed into the community while gathering evidence of the organised criminal activity.

As a result of the actions of Operation Gallic, three people have been charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs and a further 10 people charged with 36 drug offences.  They are expected to appear in Magistrates Courts in Brisbane and Beenleigh in the coming weeks.
