Major Milestone For Clarence Valley

NSW Nationals

State Nationals MP for Clarence, Richie Williamson, said the official opening of the new Bluff Bridge is a significant milestone for the Clarence Valley, marking one of the final projects delivered under the former NSW Nationals in Government's Fixing Country Bridges Program.

Mr Williamson said he was delighted to attend the official opening of the bridge which will improve safety, connectivity, and flood resilience along the Orara Way.

"This is exactly what the Fixing Country Bridges Program was designed to deliver - safer, stronger and more reliable infrastructure for regional communities," Mr Williamson said.

"Clarence Valley Council secured $46 million under the former NSW and Federal Coalition Governments to replace 36 ageing timber bridges across the region, and it's fantastic to see one of the final projects now completed."

The new Bluff Bridge replaces the previous timber structure, which was frequently impacted by flooding, and now provides a much more reliable connection between Grafton and Glenreagh.

"The old bridge would regularly go under in flood events, cutting off access for local residents, businesses, and emergency services," Mr Williamson said.

"This new concrete structure sits eight metres higher and has been built to withstand extreme weather, meaning fewer closures and safer travel for the community."

Mr Williamson said the project is a clear example of the importance of investing in regional infrastructure that meets modern standards.

"We know how critical these transport links are, particularly in a region like ours that is no stranger to flooding," he said.

"Upgrading infrastructure like the Bluff Bridge ensures communities stay connected when it matters most."

Mr Williamson also acknowledged Clarence Valley Council for delivering the project.

"I want to congratulate Council on seeing this project through from planning to completion," he said.

"This is a great outcome for the Clarence Valley and a strong example of what can be achieved when governments invest in the right infrastructure."

Mr Williamson said the completion of Bluff Bridge brings the region one step closer to a safer and more resilient local road network.
