Another confidence boosting, job-creating project is set to get underway following the Tasmanian Planning Commission's approval of the Kangaroo Bay Hotel.
The 4.5 star, 155-room Kangaroo Bay hotel will create hundreds of new jobs, acting as a catalyst for Hobart's Eastern Shore.
It will include conference space, public amenity and hospitality options, breathing life into what is an otherwise vacant bit of dirt begging for development.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said Chambroad Australia's $65 million project will be great for Tasmania's economy.
"We firmly backed this development, the 100 construction jobs it is expected to create and the more than 400 operational roles once it is built," Premier Rockliff said.
"Despite considerable opposition, including from the Labor Party, we continued to see it through and backed in workers, the tourism and hospitality industry, and the local economy to get this project over the line.
"Our Government is delivering strong business confidence and conditions through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, ensuring we attract private investment that will benefit our communities."
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said Tasmania is entering a new era of opportunity.
"We are backing developments just like this to tell the world Tasmania is open for business," Minister Vincent said.
"This project has undergone intense scrutiny and shows our planning process stacks up, and so does this development.
"This project has been nearly a decade in the making, and I look forward to seeing this development come to life."
