Male Rescued from Floodwaters at Cataract Gorge

A 60 year old Launceston man was rescued from floodwaters at the Cataract Gorge on Tuesday night after coming into difficulty whilst swimming.

Members of the public alerted emergency services that the male was in distress just after 6pm, prompting a joint response from Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service, Ambulance Tasmania and Surf Lifesaving Tasmania.

The male managed to make his way to rocks in the middle of the river before emergency services removed him from the floodwater.

The male was assessed by paramedics at the scene, however he did not require any further assessment.

Tasmania Police advise that following significant rainfall in the state, it is a timely reminder for people not to enter or swim in floodwaters.

Tasmania Police would like to thank members or the public who alerted emergency services to the male in distress.
