Mamdani Expands Violence Prevention Programs to 3 Areas

New York City

Deputy Mayor Renita Francois, Department of Community Safety: All right, good morning, everybody. A wonderful day in Brooklyn. It's nice and sunny. It is a good day for good news, right? So, I am Deputy Mayor for Community Safety Renita Francois, and it's an honor to welcome you all here on this momentous occasion. Today is about delivering on a promise that every New Yorker deserves to be safe in their neighborhood, and that safety should be built through trust, prevention and support.

The expansion of our crisis management system and the creation of the Office of Community Safety were major commitments on this mayor's campaign. And today, we are turning that commitment into action, bringing more community-based violence prevention, street outreach, conflict mediation and access to support to Bushwick, Harlem, and Washington Heights and Inwood.

This work is rooted in the leadership of credible messengers and community organizations who know their neighbors best, and it reflects this mayor's belief that government works best when it partners with the people closest to the challenge.
