Man and woman charged after motorcycle pursuit in Cessnock

A man and woman have been charged after a pursuit with a motorcycle in the Hunter Valley, NSW Police say.

About 2am (Sunday 27 May 2018), police were patrolling Aberdare Road, Cessnock, when they tried to pull over a stolen Yamaha road bike.

The motorcycle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated which continued for a distance of 16km, ending in Campbell Street, Ellalong, when the motorbike was laid down on its side.

The male rider ran from the scene, leaving behind a 20-year-old woman passenger, who was arrested by police.

A perimeter was established and the man, aged 24, was arrested over an hour later hiding on a rural property.

A large amount of drugs and cash was allegedly located in the possession of both persons.

They were both taken to Cessnock Police Station where the man was charged with drive stolen conveyance, police pursuit - second offence, disqualified driver/rider, deal with proceeds of crime, supply and possess prohibited drug and enter enclosed lands.

He was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court tomorrow (Monday 28 May 2018).

The woman was charged with supply and possess prohibited drug, deal with proceeds of crime, and carry cutting weapon on apprehension.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday 27 June 2018.
