Man and woman wanted over tavern robbery arrested, SA

Police have arrested a man and woman this morning wanted over a robbery at the Grand Junction Tavern on Monday, according to SA Police.

About 1.30am patrols were conducting patrols around Smithfield when they spotted a Holden sedan filling up at a petrol station on Main North Road. Checks on the car’s registration revealed that the car was wanted by police over the robbery at Pennington. (see link to previous release)

Patrols approached the car and attempted to arrest the man who allegedly resisted and was pulled from the driver’s seat of the car. While patrols struggled with the man, a woman has jumped into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive off.

The man broke free from police and ran down Main North Road but was quickly apprehended by patrols again.

Police will allege that during the arrest of the man, the woman has driven from the service station and allegedly attempted to run the patrol officers down on several occasions.

The car became wedged on the nature strip and the man and woman were subsequently arrested.

The man and woman are currently being interviewed by police and further updates will be provided when known.

No one was physically injured during the incident.
