A man has been arrested this afternoon, in relation to a disorder in Lower Hutt in the early hours of this morning.
Police were called to Waterloo Road shortly after 2am following reports of a disorder.
One person was transported to hospital with critical injuries, where they remain. Several other people had minor injuries.
Just before 5pm, a 45-year-old man presented to the Wellington Central Police Station, where he was subsequently arrested in relation to this morning's incident.
The man is due to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court on Monday 31 August, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and striking with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
I want to commend the investigation team who have worked tirelessly today to get us to this point where we have the alleged offender in custody.
We want to send a clear message to the public that incidents of this nature will not be tolerated, and Police will work to ensure anybody who commits such offence, is held accountable.
Police also wish to thank the members of the public who came forward with information that has assisted today's enquiries.
