Man arrested after pursuit and assaulting a police officer, SA

A man has been arrested following a short pursuit in the Hills region this evening, according to SA Police.

Just before 8pm, Friday 1 May, police were conducting speed detection duties in Meadows when they allegedly detected a Subaru wagon travelling at 130km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Police activated emergency lights and sirens to pull over the car but it took off at speed away from then a brief pursuit ensued along Battunga Road, before it was terminated by police.

Shortly after the car was seen again on Flaxley Road by another patrol who were able to deploy road spikes, which successfully punctured a rear tire. The Subaru continued through Mount Barker before it collided with the curb of a roundabout at the intersection of Adelaide Road and Mount Barker Road, Totness, police swooped on the driver and sole occupant.

While placing the 18-year-old Clarendon man under arrest it will be allege he assaulted a police officer by kicking him. The officer was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man has been charged with a number of offences including engage in a police pursuit, exceed speed and assault police. He has been bailed to appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court at a later date.
