Man arrested after suspicious items located at Aldinga Beach, SA

A man has been arrested after police located a firearm and a number of dangerous items in a car at Aldinga Beach this evening, according to SA Police.

Just before 5pm, Friday 26 January, police were called to Aldinga Beach Road after a member of the public spotted what appeared to be a firearm and a number of other suspicious items in a parked car.

Police and emergency services cordoned off the area and evacuated several homes while the Police Bomb Response Unit attended and seized a rifle and a number of items including two empty gas bottles from the vehicle.

Although the investigation is in its early stages it is believed the items could be used in connection with the making of an explosive device, however it is not terror related.

A short time later police attended a nearby home and arrested a 43-year-old man from Whites Valley. The man has been detained and is currently under going a medical assessment. He is expected to be interviewed and charged with a number of offences at a later time.

Aldinga Beach Road was closed for sometime while police and emergency services were on the scene.
