Man Arrested After Sutherland Fire

A man has been arrested as investigations continue into an alleged arson attack in the Sutherland Shire area last month continues.

Emergency services were called to a property on Binaville Avenue, Burraneer, about 10pm on Wednesday 3 June 2026, following reports of a fire in a driveway.

Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended along with Fire and Rescue NSW crews, who extinguished the fire which had damaged a gate.

A crime scene was established and underwent forensic examination.

Initial inquiries revealed that two men jumped over a fence and lit the fire about 9.30pm, before leaving the scene.

Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established Strike Force Faben to investigate the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, about 7.35am today (28 July 2026), detectives arrested a 21-year-old man as he was allegedly attempting to board an international flight at Sydney Airport.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where inquiries continue.

A search warrant was also executed at a house on Mangrove Circuit, Melonba, with the assistance of Operational Support Group.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
