Man arrested at Eastlakes after carjacking at Redfern, NSW

A man has been arrested following a carjacking at Redfern today, NSW Police say.

Just before 1.30pm (Thursday 4 October 2018), police responded to reports a Range Rover was stolen from a car wash on Cleveland Street.

A 61-year-old man was inside the car for a short time, before he was ejected on Cleveland Street. He was uninjured.

Officers from Redfern Police Area Command observed the Range Rover on Laing Road and tried to stop it when it’s alleged the vehicle drove away, hitting a male leading senior constable standing on the road.

He was not injured.

A short time later, police initiated a pursuit near Moore Park which was terminated due to safety concerns.

The vehicle travelled through Centennial Park and Kingsford, before stopping on Maloney Street, Eastlakes.

The driver, a 24-year-old man from Harris Park, was arrested and taken to Redfern Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.
