Mill Park police were quickly on the scene after reports of an assault in Mill Park at the Westfield Plenty Valley shopping centre this afternoon, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told a man was walking across the car park at a McDonalds Road shopping centre about 4.30pm when he was allegedly struck by a man wielding a baseball bat.
The 42-year-old victim was allegedly pursued into the shopping centre where he was further assaulted.
The 31-year-old offender then left the area but was arrested a short time later.
The Mernda man has been charged with serious assaults and remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Sunday the 19/12/2017.
Investigators wish to speak to anyone who may have witnessed or have further information about the incidents.
