Man arrested on roof at Gilberton, South Australia

A man was arrested after climbing onto a roof to try to evade police last night.

Police received a report of a stolen car driving in the Kilburn area just before 6pm on Friday 22 July.

PolAir was quickly overhead and tracked the stolen Toyota Corolla as it drove erratically to the intersection of Nottage Terrace and North East Road where it collided with another vehicle. The driver ran off into a nearby property on Stephen Terrace and climbed up onto the roof.

Police surrounded the property and eventually negotiated the man safely down from the roof about 9.45pm.

The 22-year-old Clarence Gardens man was arrested and charged with illegal use, driving unlicensed, aggravated driving without due care, leaving the scene of a crash, unlawfully on premises and property damage. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 25 July.

The stolen Corolla and a Holden Cruze were towed from the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

The Corolla had been reported stolen from Goodwood earlier yesterday morning.
