Man arrested over grass fires at Aldinga Beach, SA

A man has been arrested following a series of four small scrub and grass fires at Aldinga Beach last night, according to SA Police.

Police will allege between 7pm and nearly 10pm on Saturday 6 October, MFS crews and police attended a series of four deliberately lit grass fires in the Aldinga Beach area namely:

  • 7pm a grass fire at a playground on Emerald Boulevard
  • 8pm a grass fire in a creek bed at Sienna Court
  • 9.25pm a grass fire in parklands of Pridham Boulevard
  • 9.50pm a grass fire on Aldinga Beach Road
Fortunately there was no reports of damage to residential properties and no injuries from the fires.

Police patrols saturated the area, including Southern District Detectives who spoke to a 34-year-old man from Aldinga Beach, who was subsequently arrested and charged with four counts of lighting a bushfire.

The arrested man has been refused police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court tomorrow.
